2021 Rules

Highlights:

  • The 2021 Memphis Canstruction Jr. competition will be held virtually with a design submission on April 23, 2021 and a virtual screening of the build (by West TN STEM Hub STEM Ambassadors) of winning entries.

  • Schools are no longer limited to one team per school, and may submit multiple entries.

  • *NEW*: The competition will involve design in Tinkercad of a structure built of canned food with an option to 3D print a scale model of the structure. The design must be detailed with specific can/label information.

  • *NEW*: All teams must provide a cost estimate of all cans and other materials in their structure design.

  • *NEW*: A new 3D printed model bracket is also available this year!

  • The spirit of the event will remain unchanged, with the goal of engaging students in a design challenge while benefiting people in need in our community.

  • The theme for this year’s competition will be Resilient Memphis. Because of the global pandemic, Memphis and communities around the world have had to rethink and reimagine much of life as we know it.

Timeline:

  • April 23, 2021:  Submissions due via online platform for both design drawing only and design drawing + 3D print brackets

  • April 30, 2021:  Finalists announced via email

  • May 14, 2021: Live Stream Build Event (finalist structures built by STEM Ambassadors with student teams providing input via a virtual platform)
