Canstruction® is a competition that engages participants in structural design while
also allowing them to make a significant positive impact on hunger in their local
community. The 2020 Memphis Canstruction® competition is open to teams
composed of middle or high school students and a faculty advisor(s). Each school can enter one team of students (no limit to how many students are involved, but only 5 can be official team members at competition). Each team will be sponsored by a local
Engineering firm that will provide an initial cash donation for the purchase of the cans
used in the design. Students may also hold canned food drives to get more cans
for their design, but with the sponsor program, each school will be able to at least
start with the same amount of funds for purchasing the cans.
The competition will be held Friday, March 27, 2020 from 9 am - 2 pm at the University of Memphis Rose Theater. Build time will be allotted in the morning, with judging to take place in the early afternoon. Trophies will be awarded in the following categories: Best Meal, Best Use of Labels, Structural Ingenuity, Juror’s Favorite, People's Choice, and Student's Choice.
